BRCvr Announces Final Global Immersive Burning Man-inspired Event to be Held on the AltspaceVR Platform: Re-Burn-23

Microsoft sunsets AltspaceVR as creators and community come together to celebrate their final days on the platform.

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The award-winning BRCvr (Black Rock City VR) is excited to confirm that Re-Burn-23, from January 27-29, 2023, will be their final event hosted on Microsoft’s AltspaceVR platform.

After 3 years of creating a global audience through two virtual burns, and two years of Friday Night parties and special events, the team behind BRCvr is ready to share their most mind-blowing experience, Re-Burn-23

Re-Burn-23 is an official virtual Burning Man event. This third virtual burn will bring artists, technologists, entertainers, Burners and the Burner-curious together across multiple platforms, devices, and dimensions. Participants can access the experience on their Oculus headset, desktop (MAC and PC), and mobile devices, via AltspaceVR and Zoom.

BRCvr co-founder Athena Demos says of this historic moment, “Leaving AltspaceVR is difficult for all of us who have loved building this incredible community. But Microsoft is sunsetting the AltspaceVR platform, so creators and participants must explore new creative opportunities.” She continues, “Before we announce where we plan to continue our virtual Burning Man experiences, we want to honor the incredible friendships and creative partnerships we have forged on AltspaceVR.”

Part of the success of BRCvr has been the creative partnerships it has formed with the extraordinary community of AltspaceVR creators who were flourishing before the virtual burns ever happened. Together with TRIPP founder, Jeremy Nickel, says, “Partnering with BRCvr for Re-Burn-23 is an exciting way for our VR meditation community to begin the New Year. There is so much possibility for personal and professional growth, and together we will find new and exciting ways to continue the important work we are doing.”

Beloved AltspaceVR innovator, Daisy Shaw, says of her collaboration with the BRCvr team, “Being present at my first official virtual burn in 2020 was really special, and is an event that endures as one of the greatest times ever in the whole of my 4.5 years in AltspaceVR. I am looking forward to Re-Burn-23 where I’ll be hosting two guided tours of amazing, awe-inspiring worlds that have come to be what the BRCvr team is known for. They really bring AltspaceVR to life!”

When asked to describe Re-Burn-23, Doug Jacobson, BRCvr co-founder, said this, “Our final virtual burn on AltspaceVR is going to be our greatest creative achievement to date. In addition to all of the worlds, art, and events participants have come to love about playing with BRCvr, we have three new groundbreaking features.” Doug explains, “First, is the immersive 360 “bubbles” featuring video we captured during the live 2022 Burning Man event in Black Rock City. Second, is the Blind Burners World, which is the world’s first metaverse environment to experiment playfully with navigation by sound. Third, is the use of photogrammetry to capture some of the most iconic art from the 2022 “Waking Dreams” on-playa burn including Hug Deli, 144 Time Portal, and Fear Beast, to name just a few.”

Inspired by the 10 Principles of Burning Man, Re-Burn-23 is being offered as a “Gift” to the Burner and AltspaceVR community. There is no charge to participate. In addition, it will embrace “Radical Inclusion” by offering access across VR and 2D, via both AltspaceVR and Zoom.

Re-Burn-23 will feature three days of events, meetups, activities, and experiences. Here is just a small list of highlights. There will be many, many more events during Re-Burn-23! To find exact times and access information visit https://profiles.brcvr.org/whatwherewhen
