Come join us for a nostalgic journey back into the early raves called Disco. There will be a surprise at midnight and lots of visual effects to feed any Raver’s appetite.
The Monastery was a Gay disco in Seattle also called the Boren Street Disco. It was a home for runaway teens, street kids, Gay men and women, and Straight kids that wanted a cool club to dance in. It ran from the late 70’s to early 80’s before being shut down by the city for what they considered decadent behavior. It was regularly raided by the police, and the owner was George Freeman who was an ordained minister by mail and frequently in jail. He called it a church, but it was really a dance club. It was my home and life from 80-82. It was built in an old church, and I wanted to recreate some of my youth.
