BRCvr is an official 2021 Virtual Burning Man Experience. A home to a virtual version of Black Rock City, it is inclusive of its iconic art, camps, and most importantly, its citizens. BRCvr magically captures the same spirit, culture and Principles of the real-world event in an interactive VR-first expression that cultivates conversation, connection and community.
Born in 2014 to keep the flames stoked 365-days a year, BRCvr is now accessible to global audiences via AltspaceVR, the premier app for live virtual events on desktop and select VR headsets. BRCvr offers people the chance to visit a simulation of the esteemed Playa, the site of the annual week-long event and city built on the dry lake beds in Black Rock City, Nevada . Everyone is welcome to participate from the comfort of their homes and join us as we make BRCvr a year-round collaborative world and archival tool.
There is something for everyone in BRCvr. Visit the 2021 Temple and those from years past. Each one is an artistic oasis meaning something unique to each visitor. Partake in a lecture at Center Camp, a virtually shaded acre of art and entertainment. Pop into one of the many themed camps such as Black Rock Yearbook to find old friends or dance the night away with renowned DJs with new acquaintances.
Yet because it’s VR, BRCvr offers perspectives and access even beyond what was available in the physical realm. Spawn a flying tool and float high above to see the curved and concentric city plan. Teleport between camps and art installations in seconds without breaking a sweat from the desert heat. Or, proffer up a performance of expert virtual fire spinning on top of a 747 under the stars after officiating a virtual wedding as mutant art cars glide past. In VR and especially in BRCvr, you’re only limited by your imagination.
Like our real-world counterpart, BRCvr is a mirror culture of art, self-expression and community where interacting with others is fundamental to our existence. From using our available tool kit to build your own interactive theme camps to just showing up to share the experience with others, we designed the world to be approachable for all. VR is a game-changing medium that enhances the inherently authentic inclusive and immersive nature of the event we are here to celebrate. It furthers and facilitates our shared mission to bring the culture to the larger world, live a more creative and connected existence, and joyfully inspire people to engage in awe-inspiring ways in their communities and beyond.
