Saving your AltspaceVR assets is incredibly important in order to maintain the virtual experiences and memories that you have created within the platform. Whether it be avatars, rooms, or events, these assets are a crucial part of your virtual identity and help to create a sense of continuity and stability within the virtual world. This is why it is so important to have tools that allow you to save and export your AltspaceVR assets, so that you can easily access and use them again in the future. The gratitude for these tools, created by community members, cannot be overstated. These tools are a testament to the power of collaboration and the generosity of the AltspaceVR community. They allow users to preserve their virtual experiences and memories, ensuring that they are not lost to the digital ether. While we have done our due diligence to ensure these tools are functional, we cannot 100% guarantee the validity of these tools, so use them at your own risk.

When using tools to save your assets, it is crucial to only download your own property and not to download anything that you do NOT own or have NOT been given permission to download. This helps to protect the rights and interests of the creators, who have put time and effort into creating unique and meaningful virtual experiences. By only downloading your own assets, you are helping to maintain the integrity of our community.

How to Save other aspects of your AltspaceVR experience 

Some of our community members have made resources for saving other aspects of your AltspaceVR experience.

Avatars

You can get your avatar from Altspace at Preserve My Avatar. 

All you need is your username and email address.

You can request an avatar up to 6 times per email address. Which means you can change the wardrobe and make another request. You will be sent an fbx to the email address you provide. 

Below are the instructions for using that fbx to get your avatar into something like VR Chat. 

How to import the auto rigged avatar in unity

1. Drag and drop the fbx into the project.
2. Click on the imported fbx, go to inspector, click rig, set animation type to humanoid, then click apply.
3. To add textures, click on the imported fbx, go to inspector, click materials, click extract texture then click apply.
4. Drag the fbx into the scene.
5. (Optional) if you want to hide the limbs, click on the limbs, go to inspector, deselect the checkbox on the top left to disable them.

How to migrate your AltspaceVR avatar to VR Chat

1. First download the VRC Creator Companion (just because it’s nice and handy and easy. Make sure you have the correct Unity Installed if you don’t VRC Creator Companion will help or install Unity 2019.4.31f1.
2. Load VRC Creator Companion. 
3. Under Projects click New > Avatar > then name your Avatar folder something like Altspace Avatar (personal choice on what you name it).
4. Wait a few moments.
5. Drag and drop the fbx into the project, the one from the email. Please select and check the AutoRigged version in the website. 
6. Click on the imported fbx, go to inspector, click rig, set animation type to humanoid, then click apply.
7. Drag the fbx into the scene.
8. (Optional) if you want to hide the limbs, click on the limbs, go to inspector, deselect the checkbox on the top left to disable them.
9. Login at the top with your VRC login details and follow the instructions to upload the avatar, build one for Windows, then swap and build for Android.
